The American Civic Association is looking for volunteers to help with their Refugee Reception and Placement (R&P) program. As part of this program we welcome new community members into Broome County and the surrounding area and help them start to build stability so they can achieve long term success in their new home. This program begins before refugees arrive in the US and assists them for their first 90 days after arrival in attaining self sufficiency.
Some of the ways Volunteers can help:
- securing housing
- collection of household supplies
- housing set up
- welcoming refugee families when they arrive
- transportation to and from appointments
- local advocacy and education
- cultural and transportation orientation
- employment preparation and search
- translation and interpretation
There are many other ways that volunteers may be able to impact this program and the ACA encourages anyone with an interest in welcoming New Americans to apply to volunteer!
Note: While we have need of multilingual community members, this is not a requirement to be an effective volunteer with the R&P program
