We're looking for dedicated, connected and enthusiastic volunteers to serve on our Strategic Volunteer Engagement Committee (SVEC) & bolster volunteerism in our community!
In conjunction with United Way staff and volunteers, the Strategic Volunteer Engagement Committee is responsible for coordinating the overall implementation of United Way of Broome County volunteer events. These might include Day of Action, Day of Caring, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, National Volunteer Week, and the National Days of Service & Remembrance.

Responsibilities and Duties
Members of the Strategic Volunteer Engagement Committee are expected to…
- Attend monthly SVEC meetings between March and November of each year
- Assist in executing United Way of Broome County’s days of service by contributing in one or more of the following ways:
- Using their professional and community connections to recruit volunteers, projects, and businesses to participate in the days of service
- Dropping off materials and conducting site visits at project sites
- Packing t-shirt orders for individual volunteers and volunteer groups
- Visiting project sites during the days of service to thank volunteers and take photos
- Serving a two-year term
- Committing to a maximum of 15-20 hours of service per year
- Abiding by the Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest statements (listed below)
Qualifications
Membership is open to individuals who fit one or more of the following criteria:
- Has a background in volunteer management/community engagement
- Has strong community connections
- Demonstrates passion for United Way of Broome County’s mission and a strong commitment to service
Confidentiality
SVEC members have a responsibility not to disclose information and to treat all information received in their functions as confidential. Any unauthorized access to the organization, donor, employee, community partner, or client information is prohibited and will be considered a breach of confidentiality. Such breach of confidentiality extends to having, communicating, or distributing such information electronically, in hard copy, or in any other form except in the process of carrying out duties as an SVEC member.
Conflicts of Interest
SVEC members are required to disclose all agencies they are affiliated with, both professionally and voluntarily. SVEC members who are also employed by or members of the boards of affiliated organizations are encouraged to disclose that relationship should discussions around that specific organization take place, in keeping with the intent to make everyone aware of potential conflicts of interest.
