We have the following re-occurring volunteer opportunities yearly:
Public Presentations (Volunteer Evaluator & Score Room Judge)
Serve as an Evaluator or a score room judge for youth presentations (demonstrations, speeches, illustrated talks). Use a simple score sheet, actively listen to youth presentations and provide encouraging, constructive feedback. Time commitment: typically 8:30am- 2:pm on event day (training/resources provided).Normally, last Saturday in Feb.
Farm Bureau Auction Fundraiser (Food Stand Volunteers)
Help run the 4-H food stand fundraiser (grilling/serving, order taking, prep, restocking). Support youth and staff with customer service and keeping lines moving. Assist with setup, cleanup, and maintaining a clean, safe workspace. Time commitment: shifts available (morning, mid-day, or full day).Normally, first Saturday in May.
Broome County 4-H Horse Rally (Clinic & Event Volunteers)
Support a hands-on horse education day with set up, maintain organization of stations, clinics, and demonstrations areas. Help with check-in, directing participants, ring/station support, and safety monitoring. Assist clinicians by resetting stations, managing time, and helping youth rotate smoothly. Time commitment: flexible shifts; horse knowledge helpful but not required for all roles. Normally, in May or June.
Project Evaluations (Event Support & Evaluators)
Help evaluate youth projects (youth building exhibits and/or select project areas) using a rubric. Actively listen to youth and engage in a positive conversation on their project. Provide positive and constructive feedback and recognition for skill development and effort. Time commitment: typically a half-day; training and rubrics provided. Normally, around Mid-end of July
