Impact Council Members will assist United Way of Broome County in supporting the Strategic Community Grants Program. Impact Council Members will work with United Way of Broome County staff to review applications and recommend which applicants will receive funding to address barriers to Health Communities, Youth Opportunity, and Financial Security.
Impact Councils meet approximately 3 times between February and April each year. Meetings typically take place during regular business hours.
The goals of each area of the grant program are as follows:
Healthy Communities: Improving health and wellbeing for all.
Long-Term Outcomes:
- Reduce the rate of potentially preventable hospitalizations
- Reduce the percentage of adults reporting 14 or more days of poor mental health per month
- Reduce the rate of indicated reports of child abuse
Youth Opportunity: Helping young people realize their full potential.
Long-Term Outcomes:
- Increase the percentage of children enrolled in early childcare
- Decrease the chronic absenteeism rate among elementary, middle, and high school students
- Increase post-secondary preparedness by increasing the post-secondary enrollment rate and the percentage of each graduating class with a CDOS or CTE diploma.
Financial Stability: Creating a stronger financial future for every generation.
Long-Term Outcomes:
- Reduce the percentage of the population living below the ALICE threshold
- Reduce the percentage of renter-occupied units in which gross rent is 30% or more of household income
- Reduce the percentage of the population who lacks adequate access to food
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attending an Impact Council orientation once per funding year
- Reviewing grant proposals
- Making recommendations on what programs best align with the Strategic Priorities Grants Program
- Recommending funding amounts for selected programs
- Attending at least 50% of review meetings, annually
- Attending at least two program site visits, annually
- Serving a two-year term
- Committing to 20-30 hours of service per year
QUALIFICATIONS
Membership is open to individuals who fit one or more of the following criteria:
- Has a background in grant evaluation/review
- Has an area of expertise in one of the areas of Financial Security, Healthy Communities, and Youth Opportunities
- Demonstrates passion for United Way of Broome County’s areas of focus
