The Shelter Resident Transition (SRT) Service Associate is a temporary role that supports people staying in Red Cross shelters after a large disaster. These staff members work directly with shelter residents to learn about their current situation, what resources they have, and what challenges are preventing them from leaving the shelter. Together, they help households create a personalized plan to move from the shelter into a more stable living situation, such as temporary or permanent housing.

By helping people find their next steps and leave the shelter sooner, this role helps reduce how long individuals and families are displaced by a disaster and supports their recovery. This work is typically needed during larger disaster responses.

Volunteer: After School Program Mentor

The Bridge Community Center is located in downtown Johnson City, just down the street from Wilson Hospital. The Bridge houses many programs and community resources to families and neighbors. Throughout the school year we operate a free After School Program for kids ages 3-18 years. Every program includes a family style dinner so we can connect with one another. There are also various events throughout the year to celebrate accomplishments, support families with needs, and come together as a community.

The commitment would include: volunteering your time once per week (Tuesday or Thursday) during the program hours, once per month training and team meeting, and involvement in at least one of our special events in the year. A background check and interview is required for a volunteer to be accepted as a mentor in the program.
