Who We Are

Our Mission:

Broome County Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission is working diligently to promote education and awareness of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s ideas of diversity, equality, and human rights for all.


Our Vision:

The Broome County Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission (BCMLK) has a vision:

A place in the heart of Binghamton which honors the legacy of Dr. King.

A place where children can learn about the powerful contributions of this great man.

A place where our community can gather and celebrate its diversity.

What We Do

Our Purpose:

  • To develop and/or support all activities honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • To encourage state and local government, sponsorship of at least one major event that would involve all citizens in an appropriate tribute to Dr. King (once a year – national holiday).
  • To promote education and awareness throughout Broome County on the principles of non-violence.
  • To involve all sectors, private and public, to recognize, resolve and resist racism.
  • To reach out to all ethnic, racial, economic, and religious backgrounds to help them discover their common humanity.
  • To inspire youth to reach beyond their boundaries to succeed in their endeavors.
